The Finnish sea captain Mauritz Skogström founded a company called Trustivapaa Bensiini Oy - Trustfri Bensiini Ab in Helsinki in 1934 with two businessmen. In the 1940s, Trustivapaa Bensiini grew strongly and the expansion of operations required more capital. In 1948, TB's owner Göran Ehrnrooth and CEO Rafael Rahikainen decided to solve the financing need by asking for sales offers internationally. The best offer was made by V/O Sojuznefteexport, to which the oil company Suomen Petrooli Oy, founded in Vyborg in 1932, had been transferred two years earlier based on the Paris Peace Treaty. This is how TB and SP became sister companies with a common headquarters and management in Helsinki.
In 1959, the company started importing and marketing light fuel oil in Finland. In the 1960s, the company started importing heavy fuel oil to Finland, which quickly grew in popularity as an energy source. A lubricant mixing plant and an oil laboratory were built in Herttoniemi in 1962 and production began the following year. In 1967, the importation of LPG began. At the end of the 1960s, the service network included more than 400 business locations.
1966 Oy Teboil Ab was chosen based on a name competition as the new name for Trustfree Benzinin.
Teboil's own rally team was founded in 1970. The operation that started here continued for three decades. Many top drivers who became international motorsport stars drove in the colors of Teboil Racing Team, such as Markku Alen, Ari Vatanen, Timo Salonen, Jarmo Kytölehto, Harri Rovanperä and Jouko Puhakka. Autosport contributed to Teboil's product development work, which brought the popular Silver motor oils to market. In 1979, Teboil introduced the first semi-synthetic motor oil, Teboil Gold, and in 1988, Silver G, the world's first AP-SG class motor oil. A year later, the fully synthetic Diamond was introduced, which started the story of an entire product family.
In the 1980s, Teboil was strongly involved in the development of the Finnish oil industry. As the first oil company in Finland, the company started comprehensive testing at its service stations and developed a warranty maintenance service. In 1981, it was the first to bring credit card machines to service stations.
1992 Teboil was the first to bring unleaded gasoline suitable for all cars to the market, Teboil Terra. In the same year, a new lubricant factory and laboratories were opened in Hamina. In 1993, a completely new type of transport service center Teboil Tähtihovi was opened in Heinola. 2000 Teboil Pirkanhovi was opened in Lempäälä. At the same time, Suomen Tähtihovit Oy was founded, which became Teboil's subsidiary.
In 2005, the Russian PAO LUKOIL bought the entire share capital of Teboil and Suomen Petrol from Nafta Moskva (formerly Sojuznefteexport). 2006 LUKOIL and the American ConocoPhillips agreed on a deal whereby ConocoPhillips gas stations became the property of LUKOIL. The contract included JET stations in Europe. Teboil bought ConocoPhillips Finland, and its name was changed to Suomen Tähtiautomaatit Oy. Jet automatic stations were changed to Teboil Express automatic stations. In 2008, Suomen Petroli, Suomen Tähtihovit and Suomen Tähtiautomatit were merged into Teboil.
